The Vision of Escaflowne light novels, based on the anime, were written in 1996-1997 by creator Shoji Kawamori and Yumiko Tsukamoto. They were illustrated by animation director Hiroshi Osaka. There are six light novels in total, and the chapters of each were originally serialized in the Japanese magazine Newtype.
