The Vision of Escaflowne and Escaflowne have been dubbed into multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Korean.

There are two English dubs, the 2000 Bandai Entertainment dub and the 2016 Funimation redub.

Bandai dub[]

Also known as the Ocean dub, this dub was licensed by Bandai and ran in both cut and uncut versions on YTV (Canada) and Fox Kids (United States) in 2000. Canadian actors who were part of the Ocean Group played the characters.

In addition to cutting out scenes of graphic violence and blood, as well as editing for time, the cut version created for YTV and Fox Kids overdubbed the original music of the series with original compositions by Inon Zur.

When released on VHS and DVD, this version did not dub the sequences ("missing scenes") that were cut from the original Japanese TV release.

Character differences[]

Funimation dub[]

In 2016, Funimation launched a Kickstarter campaign to redub The Vision of Escaflowne and Escaflowne. Sonny Strait, who voices Allen Schezar, directed the redub. In this redub, the pronunciations of many names and terms were altered, such as Allen's last name and Amano's first name.

In this dub, the sequences cut for time from the original Japanese TV run were dubbed.

Character differences[]

  • Chid and young Van are played by adult women, and Dilandau is played by an adult man.
  • Minor characters have one voice actor each, although some minor characters still share voice actors.
  • Amano, Yukari, Allen, and Millerna all have different voice actors.
