The Black Dragon Clan is a villainous group led by Folken in Escaflowne.
Story[]
Some time after Folken burns his home country to the ground, killing his parents and leaving his younger brother Van behind, he takes command of the Black Dragon Clan and begins destroying countries and conquering villages, aiming for Gaea's eventual destruction. To accomplish this goal, he hopes to sway the Wing Goddess to his side so that she will wish for Gaea's destruction rather than its salvation.
Sora, Dilandau and the Dragonslayers, and Jajuka all attempt to help Folken achieve this goal. Sora calls the Wing Goddess, Hitomi, to Gaea. Dilandau and the Dragonslayers, aided by Jajuka, are called on to capture the Wing Goddess. They use Shesta's ability of clairvoyance to pinpoint Hitomi's location, but instead of just sneaking in to capture her, Dilandau commands them to also attack the Abaharaki caravan where she is located.
Folken punishes Dilandau for disobeying his orders, using his telekinetic powers to twist his fingers, and punishing him further when he attempts to fight back with his own telekinetic powers.
Sora further attempts to influence Hitomi to choose Gaea's destruction so that there will be no more suffering, but Hitomi does not choose the path of destruction, and rides with Van to Folken's fortress, where Van and Folken have a final confrontation.
Jajuka's resentment against Folken and the Black Dragon Clan is hinted at early in the film when Jajuka watches, in disgust, how the Black Dragon Clan burns innocent beast villages. His resentment leads him to attempt to kill Folken during his final confrontation with Van, but Folken also kills him in the process.
Sora stays with Folken as his fortress collapses and Escaflowne disappears. Dilandau and three of the Dragonslayers are the only surviving Black Dragon Clan members. The Black Dragon Clan is presumably dissolved after the death of Folken.
