"This is the fate of knights and women born of the blood. I love you so much, Allen." - Marlene
Allen Schezar and Marlene Aston.
While attending a swordfighting tournament, Marlene saw Allen and developed a crush on him. After he was named to the Knights Caeli, she hinted to her father that Allen should be stationed at the castle in Palas. They fell into a whirlwind romance, and within that time, she was betrothed to the Duke Freid. Some time before her wedding, she and Allen slept together and Prince Chid was conceived as a result.
During her time in Freid, Marlene told Chid stories about the "invincible knight" Allen, though his true parentage was kept a secret from him. When she was on her deathbed, she told the Duke that she wished she could stay with him longer because she had actually fallen in love with him.
Allen struggles to get over his first love. Though he moves on to relationships with Millerna and with Hitomi, he thinks about Marlene while in Freid, and Eries warns him that leading Millerna on will only hurt both of them, because Allen is seeing Marlene in her despite that they are different people, and because Millerna acts in rash and dangerous ways out of her love for Allen.
